Carlos nació un 5 de noviembre de 1929 en La Viña. Hijo único de Tomás Abán y Rosario López. Se destaca como un músico popular, bandoneonista y compositor; dirige y compone para una agrupación musical que lleva su nombre: “Carlos Abán y su conjunto”. Famoso y conocido, por su local “bailable”: “La carpa de Abán", ubicada en Villa el Sol, en donde realiza concursos de coplas y de bagualero, además de realizar obras solidarias para su barriada: Integra la “Orden del Poncho”: grupo tradicionalista que organiza desde principios de los 90 una serie de certámenes musicales y literarios; lo integran, entre otros, el historiador y periodista Martín Güemes. Hacia fines de 1999 se radica alternativamente en la Capital Federal. Ha sido el propulsor de numerosos certámenes literarios relacionados con la copla, además del “Concurso Nacional de la Zamba”, que se realiza todos los años desde finales de los 90, a través de la Orden del Poncho. Se ha presentado con su conjunto: “Carlos Abán y su conjunto” en numerosos Festivales: Serenata a Cafayate, Festival de la Chicha, Festi Orán y otros. Audiciones de Radio y Televisión Nacional y Provincial. Ha grabado con su conjunto varios LP (Larga Duración). En el año 2002 reabre su Carpa en los predios de la Sociedad Rural Salteña, con la consigna:”Los Corsos y Carnavales de Antaño”. Ha compuesto numerosas obras de raíz folklóricas como "Salta en septiembre", Zamba; con Alma García compone “Cuando el gallo canta” y “Carnaval en las carpas” zambas, entre otras.
